TEAM RULES
eVites
Please respond to game and practice eVites as soon as you know your status and preferably a couple days before the game. For Sunday games, please respond by Friday morning. If you dont respond, you may not be in the lineup. If you are not sure of your status, just select the maybe option. Also if something changes, let your manager know ASAP. Things always come up, and thats ok, but esponding yes to a game eVite and then being a no-show without letting someone know and not having a very good reason is a fast way to get in the dog house. Dont make a habit of this or you will be off the team. Not responding at all is just as bad.
Communication
There are many ways we will communicate including:
eVite - games and practices; There is now an eVite phone app available for iPhone and Android that works really well.
email - general info
cigarsbaseball.org - general info, schedule
text messages - practice info, game day updates and rainout status
Twitter @cigarsbaseball - game results and other random information
atlantamsbl.com - league website has league schedule, standings, game results
Rain Outs
I know everyone gets anxious when rain threatens and wants to know the status. The league and managers work very closely to figure out what is going on as soon as possible, however no one controls the weather and often the HS baseball coaches make the call on playability. You will be notified by text message as to the status of the game as soon as decisions are made.
Home Field
We are fortunate to have a home field so lets make sure we keep it. After all games we may need to do some work on the field including cleaning dugouts, putting away bases, covering home plate and the pitchers mound, and cover warm up mounds. Everyone needs to pitch in to help clean up after games.
No dogs allowed at our home field, and generally no dogs allowed on any of the fields.
Absolutely NO alcohol allowed on any of our fields.
Uniform & Equipment
Our team colors are navy and orange. Two jerseys (one orange, one navy) and a cap will be provided.
For games you will need to get and wear navy socks, navy belt, and undershirt that is either white, grey, navy, or orange.
Also you are responsible for your own navy helmet. You also need to bring your own baseball gear: glove, bat, cleats, etc. Also bring a couple of baseballs to use for warm ups as there may not always be team practice baseballs at the field.
Game Days
If possible, arrive at the game 1 hour before game time. If you are going to be late or less than 30 minutes before game time, let someone know.
Our pre-game warm up typically starts with a run (one or 2 laps) around the field. We will typically run about 45 minutes prior to game time.
If you arrive late, and are not properly warmed up, do not take infield outfield -- instead warm up.
Please keep your equipment bags off of the benches during games. You can put them on the side, up top or under the benches.
Warm up in the outfield. Only warm up on the side near the dugouts if you are unable to get in the outfield - for example if the other team is doing infield outfield.
If you dont know how to keep the score book, give it to someone who does. Learn how to do it, just dont make something up.
Please contribute to retrieving foul balls when possible.
Please make sure to always have a third base coach and a first base coach. If you are coaching third base, dont give signs for plays that you have not confirmed with the manager.
DO NOT argue with the umpires. Only the manager can dispute calls made on the field.
DO NOT throw bats or other equipment especially if its not yours.
ABOUT
Atlanta Cigars
The Cigars play in the Atlanta MSBL. The MSBL is a nation wide adult amatuer baseball league started 25+ years ago in the New York area. Today the MSBL is in most every major city in the US. There are various age divisions including 18+, 25+, 35+ and 45/55+. The MABL and MSBL have regional tournaments all across the US and national tournaments in Arizon and Florida in the fall.
The Cigars are an amateur mens baseball team established in 2003. We are part of the Atlanta MSBL/MABL. We play our games mostly on Sundays starting in late March. The regular season is 18 games and runs through August with playoffs in September. Games start at 1 PM or 4 PM on Sundays. Playoffs are in September typically starting the weekend after Labor Day and include double header Saturdays. All major holidays (Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, etc) are off days.
In 2012, the Cigars won the 25+ American League Championship with a record of 21-4.
Games are played on mostly High School fields throughout the Atlanta metro area.
